Before the Fatal Crash

In this section, you will be able to find information on who built the Titanic and how such a large ship was built in such an early time. You will learn about the process it took to build the Titanic, and any other blood and sweat that went into this monstrous ship. Before construction even began on the Titanic, months and months of planning went into this massive ocean liner. The people who worked in the ship yard worked long, tiring hours and were paid very low wages, hardly enough to support them or their family. The work was dangerous and dirty, but with the amount of people willing to do anything to help support themselves, it was easy to find people to build the Titanic. But, after three years of hard physical labor and mental planning, the Titanic was ready to set sail on its first ever voyage with more than 2,200 people aboard. At 12 o'clock on April 10, 1912, more than 800 crewmembers and 1,400 passengers climbed aboard the Titanic in Southampton, England ready for a glorious five day trip to New York, New York. For some people, it was just a simple vacation, but for others, it was an opportunity for a new, succesful life. So as the tugboats pulled to Titanic out of the harbor it let out its first triumphant horn and soon was on its way to a doomed future.
